DANCING WITH A STRANGER

“Dancing With A Stranger” remains true to Sam Smith’s trademark sentimentality within his music, perfectly marrying veritable lyricism with infectious instrumentation.

The music video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and was released on the 29th January 2019.

The video was made in a large modern and fairly cold house, with Smith using futuristic technology to go on dating apps to find someone new. While the singer Normani mainly dances in the music video, the two barely coming together, but they are in the same house. Since it’s upload in January, the music video has over 251 million views and almost 1.5 million likes.

In its year of release, the track went to #1 in: Mexico and Iceland, as well as making its way to Scotland, Romania and Australia and New Zealand.

Dancing with a stranger is a song that was inspired by a couple that broke up, here the singers refer to their loneliness and the longing to have their lover whom they lost, this forces them to meet new people, new couples feeling strangers at the same time with themselves.

In society it is common for people, especially adults, to go through a love breakup, the song causes sadness and melancholy because it makes people remember their past lovers, but it can also be interpreted with the loss of a family member  or the distance between them.

This song may be appropriate for teenagers but they wouldn't understand it. Therefore, it is mainly for adults or young people.
